Cork Art Supplies is one of the few companies that stock the full colour range of Old Holland Oils.
Oil paint occupies a special position at Old Holland. It is the first product that they manufactured. Old Holland has been making artist colours since 1664, making it one of the oldest continuously operating companies in the art supplies industry. The company is known for uncompromising adherance to traditional techniSince the early days of oils, artists have made high demands regarding the durability of their work.
In order to meet these demands for optimum durability, Old Holland still produces all its classic oil paints according to traditional formulas (the durability of which has been demonstrated over the course of time), supplemented by the latest contemporary insights.
The choice of pigments is a unique mix of the best traditional colours and the best pigments derived from the latest technological developments.
In 1985, following extensive research, Old Holland presented a revolutionary range of 168 oil paints, each with the highest degree of lightness.
Traditional, non-lightfast pigments were replaced with modern lightfast pigments with the same colour characteristics as the traditional ones.
Thanks to the highest possible concentration of pigment in each colour, the paint has an unprecedented colour strength.
Within the unique range of 168 colours, there is a wide range of opaque and transparent colours, each with the highest possible brilliance (intense) and clarity (clean) characteristics.
Each tube of Old Holland oil paint has a colour strip above the label, painted with the colour from the tube in question. We are convinced that this is the only honest method to show the colour in the tube.
Old Holland is the only company that still uses this method.ques and standards. All colour making is done by hand, and all processes are controlled by artists. Pigments are ground in stone rather than metal rollers, and colours are packaged in lead tubes rather than the more modern aluminum alloy tubes, which eventually oxidize and decay.
Old Holland Classic Oil Colours are produced according to traditional recipes, those used for paintings made in the 17th century. These paintings retain the clarity of their colours to this day. That’s durability.
Like hundreds of years ago, only the best pigments and binders are used to produce very concentrated and light-fast paint, resulting in higher colour strength, hiding power, and intensity.
Only cold-pressed linseed oil from the first pressing is used for the binder. This optimizes oxidation (drying) of the paint and also promotes permanence. The brush strokes flow out better, too.
Another ingredient from the traditional recipe — every Old Holland Classic tube label displays its contents on an actual paint color strip (not color-printed), so each tube is its own color card. What you see is what you get.
Old Holland oils come closest to those used by the great Dutch Masters.
